Google’s AMP Project To Receive Support From Wordpress

Google Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) which was launched this week, got a big partner announcing support for the format today: Automattic, the company behind, said today that it’s enabling AMP by default for all WordPress blogs. That means that hosted WordPress users will get super-fast page loads when visitors come to their sites from Google results and they don’t need to change anything.

AMP (also known as Accelerated Mobile Page) is an open-source project that borrows some ideas from Facebook’s Instant Articles and brings them to the open web. An AMP-enabled page loads four times faster, and it could be useful when you are in the middle of nowhere with a bad cell reception.

The WordPress team has followed the project and worked on its own implementation of AMP. Starting today, any website on now automatically supports AMP. There’s nothing to do. Self-hosted WordPress websites can also enable AMP by installing a plugin.
