Women doing better in Freelancing in Bangladesh
Technology has played the role of an equalizer particularly in the online market space. Statistics shows that 58% of the online market space is currently dominated by woman and this figure is going uphill day by day. According to a research conducted recently, woman earns near about $2 more compared to man- said ICT State Minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak. He was addressing a crowd of freelancers, dignitaries and press as chief guest in an event titled ‘Women’s achievements in outsourcings’. The event was hosted by technology skill training organization the Creative IT in association with Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority at Sufia Kamal Auditorium at National Museum in the capital on Saturday.
ICT State Minister also said: ‘In Bangladesh, women contribution in online work places is 9 per cent. This contribution helped us to achieve 3rd position in online market place. We hope the women’s contribution will keep on increasing.’
Some 800 freelancers have completed their training under Skill Enhancement program of Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority including 200 Women in a special batch. More than 400 freelancers got jobs placements in local and international companies after completing the courses according to the organizers. Some 10 women are awarded in the program according their performance in online market places.
Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority Project Director Hosne Ara Begum said that online jobs are very secure and comfortable for a woman. Thus many women get inspired from their family to work online.
Elance-oDesk Country Manager Saidur Mamun Khan, ICT Secretary Shyam Sundar Sikder, Joint Secretary Kamal Uddin Ahmed, Creative IT Managing Director Munir Hossein were also present during the event.
