Country's biggest Event on Internet, the Internet Week-2015 is underway. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has inaugurated the event on Saturday afternoon via video stream from Ganabhaban. She said, "It was the Awami League who first bought Apple computer and laser printer worth almost three and a half lakh taka, but now the price of computers has come down drastically. Internet is also more easily accessible now-a-days."

She added, "New cyber laws are being enacted to ensure proper use of the internet, especially to prevent comments hurting religious sentiments and provocation. The government's goal is to make high speed Internet available in 4000 unions by 2017."

Sheikh Hasina also said in a tongue-in-cheek tone, "I am a student of Bangla department and my introduction to computer had been in hand of my son."

Information & Communication Technology Minister Junaid Ahmed Palak said, "We will soon bring 50% of our population under broadband internet service."

Also present at the ceremony were Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, ICT Secretary Shyam Sunder Shikder, BASIS Student Forum's spokesperson Ariful Hasan Opu, Grameenphone's marketing official Nehal Ahmed, Bangladesh Association of Software & Information Services' (BASIS) ExecutiveDirector Samy Ahmed and others.

The festival, which will continue till Monday, will host Shunyo, LRB and Nemesis in a concert. Bangladesh Cricket Team will also join the festival on Sunday. The fair will be open in each of its scheduled day from 2 o'clock in the afternoon till 11 o'clock in the evening.

After the end of the Dhaka festival, events will be held at Rajshahi Nakkin Dobar Hall on September 9, at Sylhet City Indoor Stadium on September 11, with intermission on 8th and 10th September in between, respectively. The festival will continue till September 11 in union digital centers all across the country
