E-commerce Portal: NRBBUYSELL.COM Launched
Finance minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith yesterday inaugurated Bangladesh’s first global e-commerce website Nrbbuysell.com. From where Non-resident Bangladeshis can shop for all things Bangladeshi. The website set its vision to serve more than one crore NRBs worldwide. People can both buy and sell goods and enjoy delivery service to every country and every city of the world, and wholesalers will also be able to put their products on the site. At the moment, one can avail many goods and products from the site, starting from food and electronics to clothing and collectibles. Chairman of nrbbuysell.com, Dilara A. Khan said the site’s primary target would be NRBs in the Middle East. At the event at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre, the company served its first token order for 7 NRBs in the US, including the prime minister’s ICT affairs adviser Mr. Sajeeb Wazed Joy. According to Muhith, this venture can assist greatly in giving the country’s export a huge boost. Currently, market value of the e-commerce scene in Bangladesh is worth around Tk. 1,000 crore. While globally the market is worth $3 trillion. So definitely, there is a bright future ahead for e-commerce in Bangladesh, as stated by the finance minister. He said he plans to place a Tk. 500,000 crore budget within the next two years, and that would certainly be impossible without financial digitisation. The ICT state minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak also reiterated that it is now Bangladesh’s turn to explore opportunities in e-commerce. Mr. AK Abdul Momen, who is a former permanent representative from Bangladesh to the United Nations, insisted that there is no alternative to ensuring digitisation; while Mr. Shameem Ahsan, president of Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services, demanded a VAT withdrawal on e-commerce services. Jamaluddin Ahmed, director of Bangladesh Bank and Syed Mohammad Kamal, country manager of MasterCard, also put in their input at the event.
