East Dhaka In Telecom Blackout
WASA, Water Supply & Sewerage Authority yesterday cut down several fiber optic cables belonging to Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL), the state-owned telecommunication company. The cutting of these important cables sent the Eastern parts of Dhaka city into a state of no-connectivity since last week. The areas that were affected are Shahjahanpur, Shahidbagh, Malibagh, Madartek, Goran, Kamalapur and Nandipara.
A statement from BTCL read “On June 23, Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (Wasa) cut down some important fiber optic cables at Madartek and Goran of Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL) while running their development work.”
The statement also went on to state about another fiber cable under the Moghbazar-Khilgaon flyover constructions area that was seriously affected on June 10th. The two accidents amounted to an aggregate loss of more than 2,100 BTCL telephone going out of service, according to the statement which was signed by Mir Mohammed Morshed, director of BTCL.
Adding to this, it has also impacted the internet businesses of the specific areas who are users of BTCL.
The state-owned company also went on to apologize for the inconvenience caused to their customers.
