Facebook Is Coming For You, LinkedIn
Facebook is going all out, diversifying and branching out to offer more services to its users. A recent feature that the social network is testing out will allow page admins to post job listings and receive applications directly on the platform. Great news for organisations with a Facebook presence, worrying news for LinkedIn.
Facebook is a social networking service that is primarily focused on pleasure rather than business, so this move is definitely out of the box from the company's end. On the flip side, a lot of organisations are already on Facebook, and there's also a lot of career pages where job listings are shared as posts. The inclusion of this feature would not only formalise the whole job posting/application process, it will encourage companies to be more actively present on the platform. But, this could bring a lot of trouble for LinkedIn, who might lose out purely based on the fact that they have less active users.
A spokesperson from Facebook said,
"Based on behaviour we’ve seen on Facebook, where many small businesses post about their job openings on their Page, we’re running a test for page admins to create job postings and receive applications from candidates."
Whether or not Facebook will be charging companies to post job listings, is still a mystery. The launch date for the feature has not been announced either, but this may just be the next big thing! A lot of us already follow a lot of organisations on Facebook, have a lot of people in our contact lists, the jobs feature will only make applying or sharing job posts much easier as we won't have to switch platforms to get a lot of work done.
