The Original BlackBerry – One Last Time
Mercury and Rome. No, these are not the names of a movie character. These are the (potential) names of the newest BlackBerry phone. And guess what, this new BlackBerry will come in the original form factor, with the physical QWERTY keyboard in all its glory.
A little old-fashioned maybe, but who doesn't like a little throwback?
BlackBerry CEO John Chen confirmed on Friday that a new keyboard phone “is coming".
Apparently, it will run on Android too, and not on BlackBerry OS. GSMArena reported last year that the latest BlackBerry to be released would come with Android 7.0 Nougat instead of BlackBerry 10 OS. Other than that, it will feature a 4.5 inch full HD 3:2 aspect ratio screen, a 18MP camera on the back, a 8MP camera at the front as well as a 3,400mAh battery inside. Running the device would be a Snapdragon 625 chip with 3GB RAM and a storage of 32GB. Categorized as a mid-range Android smartphone, it’s set to be launched late 2016 or early 2017.
While BlackBerry has shifted its focus to software rather than hardware, the company did release two devices with the physical keyboard recently, the BlackBerry Passport and the BlackBerry Priv.
Keeping that in mind, it’ll be exciting to see what kind of design BlackBerry comes up with for this new phone. If you ask me, I think it’s unique in this day and age. Can’t wait.
