OnePlus 3T – Like The OnePlus 3, Just Better
After just 6 months, OnePlus is stopping production of the OnePlus 3, their highest selling phone. Instead, here comes the OnePlus 3T. It’s very similar to the previous model, except this one packs a faster processor, bigger battery and a better front camera. It also adds an option for 128GB now, in addition to a 64GB option.
The OnePlus 3T has the same design and dimensions, and keeps the screen and the RAM same at 6GB, but it is now run by the Snapdragon 821 instead of the 820 and a battery capacity of 3,400mAh. That’s a 400mh boost from the earlier 3,000mAh battery. This doesn’t make the phone any thicker though.
In fact, according to OnePlus, this bigger battery is a direct response to customer feedback. We love that.
While the rear camera stays the same in terms of megapixel count, it has been given a more scratch resistant sapphire lens cover and an improved electronic image stabilization for video. The front facing camera does receive an upgrade, jumping from 16MP from 8, as well as improved low-light performance.
The phone also ships with the latest OxygenOS from OnePlus which is a lightly customized version of Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The company does promise an update to 7.0 Nougat within this year though.
As for why the T, OnePlus’s head of merketing Kyle Kiang just said:
“We went with T because a lot of other companies go with ‘S’, and since we are OnePlus, we decided to go with the next letter, read one more.”
As in, OnePlus wanted to do one better than all the other companies, that’s bold. And that’s exactly why we love OnePlus.
The OnePlus 3T comes in two colour variants, the old “soft gold” and the new “gunmetal” dark grey. It’s set to be available for purchase starting November 22nd in the US and November 28th in Europe, priced at $439 and $479 for the 64GB and 128GB respectively, which is a $40 and an $80 price increase from the OnePlus 3.
